Sourdough brownies are a true love language in this home. They are gooey, fudge-filled, and a sweet, delightful goodness. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is!

Why should you use sourdough discard?

If you don’t have a sourdough starter and you aren’t baking sourdough bread, (what are you waiting for?) you don’t HAVE to use sourdough discard, but if you are, this is a great way to not let that discard go to waste!

I try not to waste ANY discard from my starter, it’s worth so much more than just throwing it away!

I actually have SO many discard recipes!

So if I need to use some of it, this is a recipe I run to! Plus, it’s a delightful and yummy treat that everyone (literally everyone) loves!

Good! Let’s get to that recipe!

Sourdough Brownies Ingredients:

Butter – Unsalted. You want to be able to control the amount of salt in the recipe. (I used raw butter, you can learn how to make that here)

Chocolate chips – I love fudge and gooey brownies, but I also don’t want them too sweet. You can always add more!

Eggs

Vanilla 

Flour – Whole grain or all-purpose will work

Maple Syrup – Could also substitute with coconut sugar, honey, or brown sugar if desired.

Cocoa powder

Sourdough Starter – I use an active and fed starter, but you can also use your discard.

Ingredient Amount:

1 Cup Butter

1/2 Cup Maple Syrup

1/2 Cup Brown Sugar

1 Egg

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

2 1/2 Cups of Flour

1/2 Cup Cocoa

1 1/2 Cup Chocolate Chips

1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

1/2 Cup Sourdough Starter

How to Make Sourdough Brownies

1. Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees
2. You can line your pan with parchment paper or rub butter around the inside and sides of the pan.
3. Start melting your butter, once melted turn off the heat and remove your pot.
4. In a separate bowl mix your dry ingredients together
5. Pour in your butter and vanilla
6. Add your chocolate chips
7. Finally, add your sourdough starter and egg.
8. Mix together until fully mixed, the only “clumps” you should see are the chocolate chips.
9. put your pan in your oven and bake for 30-40 minutes or until you are able to stick a toothpick or fork in the brownies and it comes out clean.
10. Let them cool completely before cutting into them (if you can wait that long)
